CHOCOLATE CHERRY SMOOTHIE
Chocolate Cherry Smoothie is a delicious combo of sweet, tart, creamy and chocolaty in a healthy drink that tastes like an indulgent dessert.
Chocolate Cherry Smoothie tastes like you are drinking an indulgent shake, while its actually very healthy. This smoothie is my breakfast on-the-go a lot of times. I love the tasty combo of tart cherries and chocolate. The Chocolate Cherry Smoothie can be easily made vegan, when you use non-diary milk. Also, you can make it as filling as you want. I like to add chocolate protein powder and oats to mine, for a well balanced breakfast smoothie. I know my day is up for a good start, when breakfast tastes like chocolate. This smoothie is also great as a snack or as a post workout recovery drink, when you add protein powder. And since chocolate has so many health benefits, why not start the day with some? Not like I need someone to convince me.

- Substitute cherries for raspberries for a Chocolate Raspberry Smoothie
- To make the smoothie sweeter you can add honey, maple syrup or more dates
- Adding more dates will also make for a smoother consistency
- You can also add a banana to make it creamier and sweeter
- Up the nutrition by adding 1 cup of fresh/frozen spinach or kale
- Chocolate protein powder is a great way to make the smoothie more filling and more chocolaty
- Add quick cooking oats for some fiber and to make it more filling
- Top the smoothie with cacao nibs and oats for a nice crunch
- Drizzle the smoothie or the glass with some chocolate sauce for a dessert like smoothie
- Top the smoothie with fresh pitted cherries
Tools I used in the making of this Chocolate Cherry Smoothie Recipe:
- Vitamix Blender – my favorite and go-to blender, it is powerful and makes the best smoothies, no yucky spinach bites left in.
- Extra Dark Cocoa Powder – very flavorful, I like to use it in baking and in smoothies.
- Cocoa Powder – same thing, its flavorful and good in desserts and smoothies.
- Gluten Free Oats – I always have some on hand, I like the texture a lot.
- Chocolate Protein Powder – I never use whey protein, I don’t like the after taste. This vegan one tastes great.

- 2 cups frozen cherries
- 1 cup whole milk or unsweetened non-diary milk cold
- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 1 small medjool date pitted and chopped
- 1 teaspoon maple syrup or honey optional
- 1 scoop protein powder I used plant based chocolate protein powder
- 1/4 cup quick cooking oats I used gluten free
- 1/2 frozen banana for a creamier texture
- handful of spinach or kale
- fresh cherries pitted
- sprinkle of gluten free quick cooking oats
- drizzle of chocolate sauce

Place all ingredients into a high powered blender and blend until smooth and fully combined.

Pour into a tall glass, mason jar, bowl or to-go smoothie bottle.

If you are saving the smoothie for later, don't add the toppings. Keep refrigerated and shake well before consumption.

Garnish with toppings and enjoy.
The recipe makes one large smoothie or two smaller ones.
